Our teaching class arrangements are a balance between classes which are set based on academic achievement and mixed ability classes. Pupils can move between sets based on their hard work and progress. Throughout Years 7-9 pupils are gradually taught in more class sets in preparation for the GCSE examinations.
In Year 7 pupils are set in mathematics and english where they are set based on their KS2 levels. For all other lessons Year 7 Pupils are assigned to one of six tutor classes, named after our feeder parishes: St. Patrick, St. Bede, St. Cuthbert, St. Mary, St. Peter and Paul and English Martyrs. All tutor groups have an equal mix of pupils of all ability levels.
The tutor groups in Year 8 replicates Year 7. Pupils are set in Science, Mathematics, French and English where they are set based on their achievement at KS2 and progress made in Year 7. Year 9 Pupils are allocated to classes in the same way as in Year 8, for all other subjects pupils are taught in their tutor groups with the exception of RE which is also set in Year 9 based on progress in Year 7&8. Pupils in KS3 are allocated over a fortnight.
